Jack says this video is BS
An obtuse discussion arose
someone decided to spend a lot of time to tell us why our logo is wrong.Looks like they know typography pretty well… whoever they are. I love Vimeo, the artwork, the community, the interface. It’s one of my favorite sites ever - I must agree with this artist. Vimeo should consider these minor tweaks to the typeface. Rock on Vimeo.
yeah, I was thinking the same. While Vimeo is awesome to the ninth power, these tweaks do make sense… especially the e.
I’m not a fan of the kerning of the proposed logo, but I’m kinda torn about the m-e. It’s grown on me.
Either way, we’ll lose 40% of our userbase.
Either way, I don’t care. Just don’t separate the i from the v. Y___Y
Also… This comes from my probably top five least favorite typefaces I’ve had the pleasure to become familiar with
Caroline left us earlier than I expected. (Guess another lesson for me about wasted time)
So, I’m packing everything up in my room (rather, I’m going to… really soon… really, I’m gonna do it!), as I leave for Raleigh on Monday late afternoon. However, I need to have all my stuff out of the apartment by tomorrow morning because my roommate is, as Sarah Schneider so aptly put, “a total cunt.” I sent around this e-mail to the office that explains everything:
My roommate informed me that I would need to pay a third month’s rent by this weekend to finish out my two month stay in Brooklyn. I’m not sure how that math works out, but she seemed very confident. I informed her that Friday would be my last day in the apartment. When she finished letting me know how very displeased she was by this decision, she asked me if I could ask around the office to see if anyone needs a room for the month of August. So.
One room in a two bedroom apartment in Brooklyn on 4th Ave and 31st Street. A quick 5 minute walk to the D/M/N/R stop at 36th street. Nice neighborhood, lots of families, cheap convenience stores, and a bar that regularly hosts very complimentary gentlemen. Less than a block away from Greenwood Cemetery, but there’s a school nearby that should have food and roof access in case of zombie uprising. Apartment has a living room, cozy kitchen. If you’re a fan of horror movies, you’ll love the flickering light in the bathroom.
Your roommate is in her mid-20s, smokes, drinks, and is probably a drug addict. She will take out the garbage and care for herself, only interacting with you if she needs you to pay for something or if she wants to ask your the same few questions or tell you the same few stories she already asked you and told you upon your first encounter. No pets, but it will always smell like you have 20! Charming, vintage window A/C will keep you cool at night and provide enough white noise for your sound slumber. Rent is $650/month, about $50 for utilities. E-mail me if you’re interested and I’ll get you in touch with the right girl. So, I’m headed to see Josh this weekend one last time before we’re far far far away, 596 miles away from each other. :( I’ll get back to NYC on Sunday afternoon, crash at Blake’s for Sunday night, have my last day at work on Monday and catch my flight to Raleigh at 5:00 Monday evening.
I realized today, several times actually, that I have legitimate connections at Vimeo/CH/BT now. I have, dare I say, friends? I never in a million years thought I would be able to have casual conversations with the people I met this summer. Josh can tell you how many nights I regressed back to pre-teen trauma of “Oh my god, what if the cool kids don’t like me?”
Today I felt like a cool kid. It was really nice.
While I’m really bummed out that I have to leave CV earlier than I expected, I’m okay with leaving New York City. I realized it’s too big for me to spend more than a few weeks at a time in. It’s impersonal, and too difficult to tell Fun-Crazy apart from Real-Crazy. I’m really glad I had my weekend retreats to Western Massachusetts with Josh to balance things out.
Then again, maybe my roommate situation skewed my perception. I thought about it on the train back here (man, I’m going to miss taking the N over the bridge and seeing Manhattan glowing in the setting sun) and I think I could only ever live in a big city if I had something to come home to every night. Friends, family, lover, I need something to make the world smaller at night after being so overwhelmed by the city every day.
Thoughts?
Just imagine if she were here for the Lo or Mo eras.
I might not agree with Caroline and Dave
Dumbest tattoo design ever, I’m pretty sure.
I’m pretty sure an ambiguous film strip/rollercoaster track is not dumb.
New Vimeo T-Shirt anyone?
